![]() ![]() Down the road Matrox will kepp adding new features and performance to the RT.X100, just as they did with the original RT2000 and the RT2500. The Flex 3D FX are better then ever, with a 3D cube, blur, ripple and lense flare added to the mix. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention the real-time DV output and real-time MPEG2 export from the timeline.Įven more exciting, you can now combine 2 layers of video with 2 graphics layers and 12 additional layers of filters and FX for a total of 16 layers all in real-time. The field based slow motion is smooth and artifact free. Simply the best DV based chroma key I've seen to date. The real-time color correction is very professional and the auto white balance feature is very cool. I call it a real-time NLE monster –especially when you consider the $1000 price tag. Matrox has raised the bar for real-time NLE by leveraging their 3D graphics hardware technology with CPU intensive software FX. If you've been thinking about upgrading your NLE system but you've been waiting for a reason why you should, here are 10 very good ones! As a digital videographer you have never before had so many great new products to choose from. Matrox, Pinnacle and Avid each had MAJOR new prodcut anouncements. It's very clear that a major product war is starting on the NLE front. Here is my report on the hottest new video editing gear at this show. The DV Expo East was not as big as the west coast show, but there were some very significant product introductions. It's more like a small Comdex, aimed at corporate IT departments and power PC users. The PC Expo includes everything computer - hardware, storage, networking, software, internet, wireless, PDA. ![]() It was launched as a sub-show of the NY PC Expo in NYC (June 25-26). This was the first ever East Coast DV Expo. It's a great way to get a feel for the direction the industry is going and what the companies have in store for the next year. The timing of the West Coast show is late fall or early winter, making it kind of a mid way point between NAB shows. All of the major players in the industry are there, showing off their latest and greatest new products. All of the editing is done in Sonicfire Pro 5 and the finished AIF is then saved-over the original file so it’s automatically linked back into the Premiere Pro project without having to re-import or replace anything.Over the past several years the West Coast DV Expo has become a very important show. Since it also recalled the low-res video I used to create the original soundtrack with, it’s easy to see the edit points. Inside Soncifire Pro 5, I can edit the soundtrack and adjust the mood mapping points as well as the fade up transition and individual instruments where the overlap with the voice-over ends in a segment. I cover editing the soundtrack in this video, by using the “Edit Original” option in Premiere Pro CS5, which launches Sonicfire Pro 5 and a new project file is created with all of the original track data still intact from the AIF file. *Note that selecting 720p on the video gives you a higher quality video/audio playback – or choose “Watch on YouTube” for a larger version of the video! Sonicfire Pro 5 – Roundtrip Soundtrack Editing with Premiere Pro CS5 This is truly a smart and efficient workflow! ![]() Any updates to an AIF file that is created by Sonicfire Pro 5 that you import into your Premiere Pro project, can be re-edited again in Sonicfire Pro 5 with all the track editing data retained. Sonicfire Pro 5 also uses smart “Mood Mapping” technology that adjusts not only the volume of tracks along the timeline, but also drops out instrumentation as needed for sections of dialog or voice over. By rendering out a low-res version of my project in Premiere Pro, I can import it into Sonicfire Pro 5 and do all of my soundtrack editing to match the video ques without having to go back and forth between the two apps or wait for long previews renders to test the edits. This is a quick “over-the-shoulder” overview video that follows along the entire process of selecting, editing and reviewing the final video production. In this tutorial, I show how quick and easy it is to create a custom soundtrack in Sonicfire Pro 5 and adapt it to my video project created in Premiere Pro CS5. Sonicfire Pro 5 – Soundtrack Overview with Premiere Pro CS5 The second video takes a more in-depth approach to the round-trip workflow between Premiere Pro CS5 and Sonicfire Pro 5, and why I choose specific tools for the quickest editing possible. The first video is an “over-the-shoulder” view of the production process with little explanation of why I’m choosing specific tools, but rather a fast-paced overview of just how simple it is to select and edit the music soundtrack to work with the various parts of the video including voice over and interview clips. Watch as I use real-world examples of how I work using SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 5 with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 in a broadcast bumper. ![]()
